This bill establishes an Office of Reentry Services within the Montana Department of Labor and Industry to help individuals transitioning out of incarceration successfully reintegrate into their communities. The office will coordinate comprehensive support services across multiple state agencies, focusing on areas such as job training, workforce development, education, job placement, housing assistance, transportation, food security, and behavioral health care. Specifically, the office will collaborate with various state departments including Commerce, Corrections, Justice, Public Health and Human Services, and educational institutions to develop and expand reentry programs. The office will consult with the Montana State Workforce Innovation Board and engage stakeholders from business, mental health, substance use treatment, criminal justice advocacy, and housing sectors. Additionally, the bill requires the department to submit a biennial report to legislative committees detailing the services provided, their costs, and the number of individuals served. The bill will take effect immediately upon passage and is intended to be codified under Title 39, Chapter 11 of Montana state law.
