This bill modifies the membership requirements of the State Fair Commission by increasing the total number of commissioners from nine to twelve and changing the composition of the commission. Previously, the commission included two active farmers, two current or past county/regional fair board members, one department of agriculture director, one agribusiness employee, and three at-large Missouri residents. Under the new bill, the commission will now only explicitly include the director of the department of agriculture, with the remaining members to be determined. The bill removes the requirement for specific agricultural sector representation and eliminates the provision allowing county fair associations to submit nominee lists. The bill maintains the requirement that commissioners be Missouri residents for five years prior to appointment, be appointed by the governor with senate consent, and serve staggered four-year terms. Additionally, the bill increases the maximum number of commissioners from any single congressional district from two to three and changes the selection of the commission's chair from being automatically the agriculture director to being elected by commission members.
