This bill establishes two new special vehicle license plate options for veterans who served in military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. The first plate, called "Afghanistan & Iraq Veteran" plates, is available to service members who were awarded both the Afghanistan Campaign medal and the Iraq Campaign medal. The second plate, called "Afghanistan Veteran" plates, is available to service members who were awarded the Afghanistan Campaign medal. To obtain these special plates, veterans must apply through the director of revenue, provide proof of service and medal awards, and pay an additional fifteen-dollar fee on top of regular registration fees. The plates will feature the respective campaign medals and replace the standard "SHOW-ME STATE" text. These special plates can be obtained for any vehicle owned solely or jointly by the veteran, with no limit on the number of plates, and they include free personalization. The plates are non-transferable, though in the event of the veteran's death, a registered co-owner can continue to use the vehicle for the remainder of the licensing year. This bill aims to provide a distinctive recognition for veterans who served in these specific military campaigns.
