This bill revises insurance laws to require coverage of continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) for people with type I or type II diabetes. Specifically, the bill mandates that individual disability insurance policies, certificates, and membership contracts must provide coverage for CGMs and related supplies when a healthcare provider determines the device is medically necessary and prescribes it. The legislation ensures that insurance coverage cannot be denied based on the stage of diabetes or the patient's insulin needs. While the coverage can be subject to standard deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments, the bill prohibits imposing special limitations that would not apply to other medical services. The bill applies to most health insurance plans, excluding specific types like disability income, hospital indemnity, and long-term care policies. The coverage requirement will take effect on January 1, 2026, for policies issued or renewed on or after that date. To support implementation, the bill also appropriates $25,000 from the general fund to the department of administration for administering the state employee health plan and the new requirements.
