This bill requires the Governor of Nevada to annually proclaim four specific cultural and religious observance days: Diwali Day (on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the Hindu calendar), Eid al-Fitr Day (on the first day of the tenth month of the Islamic calendar), Vaisakhi Day (on the first day of the month of Vaisakh in the Sikh calendar), and Vesak Day (on the first full moon in May, also known as Buddha Day). For each of these days, the Governor may issue a proclamation calling on news media, educators, business and labor leaders, and government officials to raise awareness about the cultural diversity and inclusion represented by these celebrations in Nevada and globally. The bill amends Chapter 236 of the Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), which already contains provisions for various days, weeks, and months of observance, and will become effective immediately upon passage and approval.
