By creating this day of observance, the bill seeks to acknowledge Itliong's legacy as a key figure in the West Coast labor movement and recognize the contributions of Filipino-Americans, who are currently the largest segment of the Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander population in Nevada.
