This bill amends South Carolina's vehicle window tinting regulations by adjusting the permitted light transmission levels for sunscreening devices on motor vehicles. Specifically, the bill modifies existing law to change the light transmission requirements for side windows and rear windows. For side windows, the combined light transmission of the sunscreening device and factory-installed tinting must now be at least 20% (previously 27%), and the device must be nonreflective. For rear windows, similar changes are made, with the requirement that any sunscreening device applied to the rear-most window must also have a light transmission of at least 20% and be nonreflective. The bill includes a grandfather clause that allows vehicles with existing sunscreen devices installed before January 1, 2026, to remain compliant even if they do not meet the new light transmission standards. The changes aim to provide vehicle owners with more flexibility in window tinting while maintaining some visibility and safety standards. The bill will take effect upon the Governor's approval.
