AI Summary

This bill amends South Carolina's Comprehensive Health Education Act to address dating violence prevention by adding new requirements for K-12 schools and higher education institutions. The bill defines "dating violence" as physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional violence between persons 18 years old or younger in a romantic relationship, and mandates that comprehensive health education curricula for grades 6-12 must now include dating violence education. Local school boards are required to develop and implement policies on dating violence that outline its unacceptability, establish procedures for responding to incidents, provide age-appropriate education, identify responsible school officials, and notify students and parents about these policies. Additionally, schools must submit annual reports to the State Board of Education and Department of Public Health detailing the schools offering dating violence education and the number of dating violence incidents reported and addressed. Similarly, public higher education institutions must develop comparable dating violence policies and submit annual reports to the Commission on Higher Education, including publishing these reports on their websites. The bill aims to increase awareness, prevention, and response to dating violence among students by integrating education and clear institutional guidelines across the state's educational system.
