This bill amends the South Carolina Code of Laws by expanding the definition of "authorized emergency vehicles" to include Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or Radio Communication Vehicles owned by the state, counties, or municipalities that are used to support emergency networks during emergency activities. The bill adds this new category (item 13) to the existing list of authorized emergency vehicles, which already includes fire department vehicles, police vehicles, ambulances, coroners' vehicles, government litter enforcement vehicles, natural resources vehicles, vehicles transporting emergency personnel, jail and corrections vehicles, vehicles from the Department of Health and Environmental Control, federal law enforcement and military vehicles, and organ procurement organization vehicles. Specifically, the bill recognizes that PSAP vehicles play a critical role in emergency communications infrastructure and should be granted the same status and privileges as other emergency vehicles when they are actively supporting emergency networks. The amendment will take effect upon approval by the Governor.
