AI Summary

This bill amends South Carolina education laws to improve communication between schools and parents or guardians regarding student disciplinary matters. Specifically, the bill requires school districts to provide written disciplinary notices in the language preferred by the parent or guardian, which must be specified during the student enrollment process. The bill mandates that districts obtain and record parents' language preferences for communications about disciplinary actions such as suspensions, expulsion proceedings, and student enrollment restrictions. Parents will have the ability to update their preferred language for communications by providing written notice to the school district. The new provisions cover several types of disciplinary communications, including notices of student suspension, expulsion proceedings, and barring a student from enrollment. These changes aim to ensure that parents or guardians can fully understand important disciplinary information about their children, regardless of their primary language. The bill will take effect upon approval by the Governor, potentially improving accessibility and transparency in school disciplinary communications for families with diverse language backgrounds.
