This bill amends South Carolina law to rename the South Carolina Military Base Task Force to the South Carolina Military Affairs Advisory Council, adding Aiken as a military county and making several conforming changes. The council's purpose remains enhancing the value of military installations and facilities, supporting mission readiness, and improving the quality of life for military personnel in the state. The bill expands the council's membership to include the Chairperson of Aiken County Council, the Mayor of North Augusta, and adjusts the at-large member composition to now include six members instead of five, with four representing specific military counties (Aiken, Beaufort, Charleston, Richland, and Sumter) and one serving as chairman. The council will continue to coordinate efforts between public and private sectors to maintain a significant Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security presence in South Carolina, and will advise the Governor and General Assembly on military base issues. The council is required to convene at least once per year and can pursue specialists to develop strategic plans and support military installations. The bill will take effect upon approval by the Governor.
