This resolution establishes the South Carolina Minority Health Disparities Study Committee to investigate and address health inequities among racial and ethnic populations. The committee's primary objectives include setting measurable goals to reduce disparities in key health areas such as cancer screenings, HIV/AIDS, immunizations, and cardiovascular disease, with the Department of Public Health tasked with enhancing data collection and analysis to enable comprehensive statewide and national comparisons. The committee will be composed of three representatives from the House, three from the Senate, and designees from the Department of Public Health, the South Carolina Institute of Medicine and Public Health, and the South Carolina Hospital Association. The committee will examine ways to improve public awareness, education, and research regarding minority health disparities, consider access and transportation challenges, and ultimately develop recommendations for closing health outcome gaps and increasing public understanding of these disparities. Members will serve without compensation, and the Senate Medical Affairs Committee and House Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs Committee will provide staffing support. The resolution will take effect upon the Governor's approval.
