AI Summary

This bill requires group health insurance for state employees and Montana University System employees to provide coverage for specific treatments and medications related to Class 3 obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome. Specifically, the bill mandates coverage for glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists when deemed medically necessary, with protections against special deductibles or copayments that would not apply to other medical services. The insurance plans can still use cost containment measures like step therapy and prior authorization. The bill requires the Department of Administration to submit an annual report by September 1st to several legislative committees detailing the utilization, cost, and potential cost savings of these coverage requirements. To support implementation, the bill includes a one-time appropriation of $1.5 million from the state general fund for each fiscal year of the 2025-2027 biennium. The legislation is targeted specifically at state employee and Montana University System group health insurance plans, and aims to ensure more comprehensive health coverage for conditions like obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome.
