The bill allows for specific exceptions, such as: teachers can permit device use for educational purposes, students can use devices to monitor health concerns with healthcare provider approval, and students with individualized education programs (IEPs) or 504 plans can use devices according to their specific plan. Additionally, the policy must establish a process for contacting parents in case of an emergency. The new policy will take effect for the 2025-2026 school year and continue in subsequent years, with the goal of minimizing classroom distractions and ensuring a focused learning environment while maintaining flexibility for special circumstances and emergency communication.
