Provides that a physician, podiatrist, or dentist is not liable for any act or omission of a CRNA who administers anesthesia. Makes corresponding changes.

AI Summary

This bill modifies the legal framework for certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) in Indiana by expanding their authorized supervisory medical professionals and clarifying liability protections. Specifically, the bill allows CRNAs to administer anesthesia not just under the direction of a physician, but also under the direction of a podiatrist or dentist, and in their immediate presence. The legislation adds a crucial liability protection provision, stating that the supervising physician, podiatrist, or dentist is not legally responsible for any act or omission by the CRNA while administering anesthesia. These changes apply to various medical settings, including dental offices, and are set to take effect on July 1, 2025. The bill aims to provide more flexibility for CRNAs in their practice while clearly defining the scope of their professional responsibilities and the limits of their supervising practitioners' liability. By broadening the range of medical professionals who can supervise CRNAs, the legislation potentially increases access to anesthesia services in different medical contexts.
