This bill establishes a comprehensive Task Force on Loneliness and Isolation in Maryland, comprising a diverse group of 29 members including state legislators, government officials, students, healthcare professionals, community representatives, and experts from various sectors. The task force will be appointed by the Senate President, House Speaker, and Governor, with members representing a wide range of perspectives including LGBTQIA+ students, veterans, librarians, disability advocates, and technology experts. The primary objectives of the task force are to investigate the causes of loneliness and isolation in the state, develop prevention methods, recommend local activities and structures to combat social disconnection, and explore the potential creation of municipal-based social connection committees. Members will not receive compensation but can be reimbursed for expenses, and the Maryland Department of Health will provide administrative support. The task force is required to submit a detailed report of its findings and recommendations to the Governor and specific legislative committees by June 30, 2026. The bill will be in effect for two years, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027, after which it will automatically be abrogated.
