This bill expands the purposes and powers of the Maryland Veterans Trust to explicitly include providing monetary and other assistance to members of the Maryland National Guard and their families. Currently, the Trust primarily supports veterans and their families, and programs that support veterans. The bill modifies existing law to add the Maryland National Guard members and their families as a specific beneficiary group that can receive grants and loans from the Maryland Veterans Trust Fund. The Trust will now be authorized to expend money from the Fund to provide financial support to National Guard members and their families, in addition to its existing support for veterans and veteran support programs. The modifications are intended to recognize and support the unique needs of Maryland National Guard members and their families. The bill is set to take effect on October 1, 2025, giving state agencies time to prepare for the expanded scope of the Veterans Trust.
