This bill authorizes the Maryland Department of the Environment to create a voluntary process for professional licensees who are veterans to have their veteran status noted on their professional licenses or certificates. If an applicant provides the required documentation and gives consent, the licensing board must include a veteran status notation on the professional license or certificate. The bill also allows the board to electronically transmit certain information about the veteran to executive branch agencies, potentially to help the veteran access state or federal benefits. The proposed changes remove previous language about assisting in determining veterans' benefit eligibility. The new process will take effect on October 1, 2025, providing licensing boards and the Department of the Environment time to establish the necessary procedures and regulations.
