This bill modifies the composition of the Maryland Small Business Retirement Savings Board by adding the Comptroller, or the Comptroller's designee, as a new member of the board. Currently, the board consists of the State Treasurer and the Secretary of Labor (or their respective designees), along with nine additional members appointed by the Governor, Senate President, and House Speaker who have expertise in areas such as retirement programs, investments, financial systems, and small business operations. The bill will expand the board's membership to include the Comptroller, thereby potentially bringing additional financial oversight and perspective to the board. The changes will take effect on October 1, 2025, and the bill was approved by the Governor on May 6, 2025.
