AI Summary

This bill changes Indiana's unemployment compensation law by reducing the maximum amount of regular unemployment benefits from 26 times the individual's weekly benefit to 14 times the weekly benefit, effective July 1, 2025. The bill introduces a new provision allowing eligible individuals who have exhausted their regular benefits to receive up to two additional times their weekly benefit amount if they are enrolled in and making satisfactory progress in a job training program approved by the department while actively seeking work. The changes aim to modify the existing unemployment insurance system by shortening the duration of benefits while providing a pathway for skill development and re-employment. The bill also removes some outdated provisions related to high unemployment periods and federal assistance acts, streamlining the language of the existing law. These modifications represent a significant shift in how unemployment benefits are calculated and distributed in Indiana, potentially affecting the financial support available to workers who become unemployed.
