The new provision mandates that a deputy be designated to provide these services on Fishers Island at least twice per year, with each service period lasting a minimum of two business days. The deputy will be able to conduct full motor vehicle services, including written and road tests, eye examinations, and photographs. The bill ensures that these services will be provided at a facility located on the island, making it more convenient for local residents who might otherwise have difficulty accessing Department of Motor Vehicles services due to the island's geographic isolation. The deputy will not receive additional state compensation, and any fees must be approved by the commissioner. The bill will take effect 90 days after becoming law, and the commissioner retains the right to revoke the deputy's authority or alternatively use department employees to provide these services.
