This bill requires the Texas Department of Public Safety to enhance transparency by publicly posting information about its criminal history record information dissemination to consumer reporting agencies. Specifically, when the department shares criminal history records with a consumer reporting agency (which are businesses that collect and compile personal credit and background information), it must publish on its website the agency's name, telephone number, mailing address, and email address (if available), along with the date of the information transfer. The new requirement will be added as Section 411.0831 to the Government Code, and will take effect on September 1, 2025. By mandating this public disclosure, the bill aims to provide greater accountability and transparency in how criminal history information is shared with agencies that may use such records for background checks, employment screenings, or credit assessments.
