AI Summary

This bill establishes comprehensive language access provisions for elections in Nevada, aimed at improving voter accessibility for residents with limited English proficiency. The bill requires the Secretary of State to establish a system for providing voting materials and election information in languages spoken by significant populations in the state, specifically when there are at least 5,000 qualified electors in a minority group with limited English proficiency. Key provisions include establishing a statewide toll-free telephone number for language interpretation assistance, creating a Language Access Advisory Committee to identify and coordinate language accessibility needs, and mandating that county and city clerks make good faith efforts to provide bilingual election board officers. The bill also requires voter registration forms to include a language preference option, allows voters to request sample ballots in their preferred language, and ensures that voting materials, websites, and sample ballots are made available in required languages. Additionally, the bill appropriates funds to the Office of the Secretary of State to support these language access initiatives, with the goal of making the electoral process more inclusive and accessible to voters who may face language barriers.
