This concurrent resolution authorizes the lying in state of former President Jimmy Carter's remains in the Capitol Rotunda from January 7 to January 9, 2025, honoring his long and distinguished service to the nation and the world. The resolution directs the Architect of the Capitol (the federal official responsible for maintaining and managing the Capitol complex) to prepare the rotunda for this solemn ceremony, working under the guidance of the Senate Majority Leader and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Additionally, the resolution specifically instructs the Architect of the Capitol to transfer the catafalque (a decorated platform on which a coffin is placed during a state funeral) from the Capitol Visitor Center's Exhibition Hall to the rotunda to be used during the memorial services for President Carter.
