AI Summary
This bill establishes a Chronic Absenteeism Task Force within the Department of Education to investigate the impact of student absenteeism on local school divisions. The task force is specifically charged with examining how chronic absenteeism intersects with the "readiness indicator" in the School Performance and Support Framework (a school accountability system). By November 1, 2025, the task force is required to provide recommendations to the Board of Education, the Governor, and the General Assembly about potentially modifying existing administrative regulations to exclude certain student absences from chronic absenteeism calculations. The goal is to strike a balance between maintaining important attendance standards and providing administrative and family flexibility for unique or unforeseen circumstances. The task force will consult with stakeholders they consider appropriate during their investigation, aiming to develop nuanced recommendations that recognize the complex factors influencing student attendance.
