This bill adds a new legal provision to Tennessee's firearms laws that makes it a Class A misdemeanor to knowingly transfer a firearm to someone who is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm under state or federal law. Specifically, the bill creates a criminal offense for anyone who gives, sells, lends, delivers, or otherwise transfers a firearm when they know or should reasonably know that the recipient is not legally allowed to own or possess a firearm. A Class A misdemeanor in Tennessee is a serious offense that can typically result in up to one year in jail and/or a fine. The law will take effect on July 1, 2025, and will apply to all firearm transfers made on or after that date.
