AI Summary

This bill eliminates gun-free zones and significantly expands firearm rights in Indiana, with several key provisions. Beginning July 1, 2025, the state will be prohibited from regulating firearms, ammunition, firearm accessories, and their ownership, possession, carrying, transportation, registration, transfer, and storage. The bill invalidates existing state and local regulations concerning firearms, and allows people who are not otherwise prohibited from carrying firearms to do so without restrictions on properties owned, leased, or managed by several state agencies, including the departments of natural resources, administration, workforce development, and the state fair commission. The legislation also prevents state educational institutions from regulating firearm possession or transportation on their properties, and provides a mechanism for individuals or membership organizations to sue institutions that attempt to restrict firearm access, with potential damages and attorney's fees awarded to prevailing plaintiffs. The bill includes some exceptions for law enforcement, court proceedings, and certain restricted settings like community corrections programs, but generally represents a broad expansion of firearm carry rights across various state-controlled properties and institutions.
