AI Summary

This bill modifies Indiana law to allow individuals applying for a driver's license, permit, or identification card to indicate that they have a medical condition of note, specifically expanding the options to include autism spectrum disorder. The bill enables applicants to choose to have an identifying symbol and brief description of their medical condition appear on their identification document, or to have their medical information made accessible to the state police department. When an applicant selects this option, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) will place an identifying symbol on the document to indicate the presence of a medical condition. The state police department is then required to enter this medical information into the Indiana data and communication system (IDACS) computer. Importantly, both the BMV and state police department are prohibited from further disclosing the medical information, ensuring the applicant's privacy. The bill aims to provide individuals, particularly those with autism, a way to proactively communicate potential medical considerations to law enforcement or emergency responders in a controlled and confidential manner.
