This bill, known as the "state agency telework report act," mandates that all state agencies, defined as any governmental entity performing a function for the state, must submit a report by July 1, 2027, to the department of civil service detailing their telework policies and practices from the previous year. Telework is defined as performing regular work duties at a location other than the agency's official principal workplace. The reports must include data on the number of employees and job titles that teleworked, the number of days teleworked by anonymized employees and by job title, and any perceived benefits or disadvantages of telework. Crucially, agencies must also allow employees to anonymously submit their opinions on telework policies, which will be included in the agency's report and summarized in the final compilation. The department of civil service will then compile all these agency reports into a single, comprehensive report to be submitted to the speaker of the assembly and the temporary president of the senate by September 1, 2027, with the goal of further researching and potentially expanding the use of telework to save taxpayer money and benefit state employees.
