This bill requires the State University of New York (SUNY) and City University of New York (CUNY) boards of trustees to implement a policy that allows disabled veterans to obtain memberships to fitness and aquatic facilities on college and community college campuses without paying any fees. For the purposes of this bill, a "disabled veteran" is defined as a veteran who has been certified by the United States Veterans' Administration or a military department as entitled to receive disability payments for a service-related disability. The policy mandates that these memberships must be offered under the same terms and conditions as those available to the general public, and disabled veterans can prove their status by presenting appropriate documentation either at the time of application or at any point after membership has been granted. The bill will go into effect 60 days after becoming law, providing these educational institutions with a short transition period to implement the new policy.
