This bill establishes an Aging in Place Task Force within the New York State Office for the Aging to comprehensively study and develop strategies that enable older adults to remain in their homes and communities as they age. The task force will consist of 14 members, including government officials, legislative representatives, and appointees from various state leadership positions, who will examine potential improvements in areas such as infrastructure, transportation, zoning, home care, nutrition programs, fraud protections, medical care options, tax incentives, and private insurance incentives. The members will serve without compensation but will be reimbursed for expenses, and they are required to hold their first meeting within 60 days of the act's effective date. The task force will receive administrative support from the Office for the Aging and other state agencies, and must submit a detailed report of its findings and recommendations to the governor and legislative leaders by January 1, 2028. The task force will automatically terminate either upon submitting its report or by December 31, 2028, whichever occurs later, with the ultimate goal of developing comprehensive strategies to support aging residents in maintaining their independence and quality of life.
