This bill requires the commissioner of education to develop and recommend a comprehensive curriculum on dating violence prevention and healthy relationships for students in grades seven through twelve. The commissioner must first consult with educational experts, teachers, administrators, parents, and students to gather input on the proposed curriculum. When developing the recommendations, the commissioner must consider factors such as instructional time requirements, potential impact on other courses, fiscal implications, and any other relevant considerations. Within 180 days of the bill's effective date, the commissioner must provide a recommendation to the Board of Regents to either adopt or reject the curriculum. If the Regents adopt the curriculum, it must be implemented in schools no later than the next school year. If the Regents reject the curriculum, the commissioner must provide a detailed report explaining the reasons for rejection to key government officials, including the governor and legislative leaders. The curriculum is intended to be integrated into various class subjects, with a particular focus on health education, and is designed to be age-appropriate for students in grades seven through twelve.
