This bill requires the Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources to establish a comprehensive policy task force focused on wetlands protection and management. The task force will evaluate existing policies related to wetlands at both the state and national levels, with the goal of recommending strategies to accelerate the identification, restoration, creation, and protection of tidal and nontidal wetlands. The group will explore emerging scientific research and innovative approaches to ensure wetland health, and is mandated to meet at least twice annually, including one joint meeting with the Statewide Wetlands Technical Team to gather feedback. The task force will include a diverse membership representing nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, agricultural interests, federal and local governments, industry, and state agencies such as the Department of Wildlife Resources and the Marine Resources Commission.
