This bill amends the education law to require psychologists to complete additional continuing education coursework specifically focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Currently, psychologists must complete 36 hours of continuing education during each three-year registration period, with at least three hours dedicated to professional ethics. The new requirement adds another mandatory three-hour course specifically addressing DEI topics. Psychologists must take these courses from approved sponsors, which now explicitly include the American Psychological Association and its divisions or affiliates. Psychologists who do not complete the required continuing education hours will not receive their triennial registration certificate and cannot practice until they meet the requirements. The bill aims to ensure that practicing psychologists receive training in understanding and addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their professional practice. The new requirements will apply to psychologists during their next registration period, with prorated requirements for those whose first registration occurs shortly after the law's implementation. The bill takes effect immediately upon passage.
