This resolution honors Father Norman Anthony Fischer, Jr., a Catholic priest from Kentucky who broke barriers as the first Black and Filipino priest in the Diocese of Lexington. The resolution highlights Father Norman's significant contributions to his community, including his 18-year service as a chaplain at Lexington Catholic High School, where he founded the school's first Black affinity group, and his leadership in racial healing efforts. He served in multiple churches, including St. Peter Claver Church in Lexington, where he led a $3.5 million sanctuary construction campaign, and was elected president of the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus in 2024. Beyond his pastoral work, Father Norman was also recognized as a talented singer and visual artist, and was known for his volunteer work with youth and young adult ministries. The resolution, passed by the Kentucky Senate, expresses deep sympathy upon his passing on July 14, 2024, and directs the Senate Clerk to send a copy of the resolution to his family through Senator Reginald Thomas, formally adjourning in his honor and memory.
