This bill modifies the existing education law regarding career education aid for school districts. Specifically, it changes the eligibility for career education aid to begin in grade nine instead of grade ten, and adjusts the per-pupil funding amount. The bill increases the per-pupil funding from $3,900 to $4,300 and expands the definition of weighted pupils to include students in grades nine through twelve in various career education sequences, including trade, industrial, technical, agricultural, health, business, and marketing programs. The career education aid ratio will still be calculated based on the district's combined wealth ratio, with a minimum aid ratio of 36%. School districts receiving this aid must use the funds to support career education programs in the current year, and they are required to maintain their local funding levels for these programs. If a district reduces its local funding, its aid may be proportionally reduced, though the commissioner can waive this reduction if overall per-pupil expenditures remain consistent. The changes will take effect for school years beginning on or after July 1, 2025.
