This bill amends Section 10-2.1-9 of the Illinois Municipal Code, which governs appointments and preferences for original entrance into fire and police department positions. The bill makes a technical change to the language regarding how points are awarded to job candidates seeking original appointment. Specifically, the bill maintains existing provisions that allow additional points to be added to candidates' examination scores, including 5 points for persons already on the eligible list and 0.5 points per year (up to 5 points total) for paid-on-call certified firefighters, paramedics, or certified firefighters III. The bill also preserves the existing rule that candidates from outside the municipality who have been full-time firefighters or firefighter-paramedics for at least 2 years receive the same preference points. The points are calculated proportionally if the examination's rating scale differs from 100 points, and candidates are not required to claim these preference points before an examination. The board of fire and police commissioners will continue to remove candidates' names from the eligibility list after they have been on the list for more than 2 years.
