This bill establishes the "Purple Star School Program" to support and recognize schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to military-connected students, defined as children of active duty military members, military reserves, national guard, or recently discharged military personnel. Under this program, schools can apply to be designated as a "Purple Star School" by meeting specific criteria, including: designating a staff member as a military liaison responsible for identifying and supporting military-connected students; maintaining a website with comprehensive resources for military families; creating a student-led transition program; offering professional development for staff on military-connected student issues; and either issuing an official statement of support for military families, recognizing Military Child Month or Military Family Month, or establishing a partnership with a local military installation. The goal is to help these students navigate educational transitions, access appropriate support services, and ensure their unique needs are understood and addressed within the school system. The program aims to recognize the value of military service and promote civic responsibility by creating a more supportive educational environment for military-connected students.
