This resolution commends Leigha Walker, an 18-year-old honors student from Holley, New York, for her heroic actions in saving a man's life during a workplace emergency at a Subway restaurant. On June 9, 2024, when a truck crashed into the restaurant, Walker immediately called 9-1-1, assisted in breaking the truck's window, and helped rescue the unconscious driver. As a certified CPR trainee, she performed chest compressions and helped stabilize the driver until emergency services arrived, with the entire response taking only 12 minutes. The New York State Senate is recognizing Walker with a Liberty Medal, which is the highest honor the Senate can bestow on an individual, in recognition of her exceptional, humanitarian act. Walker, a three-sport athlete and team captain who also rides horses, demonstrated remarkable composure and decisiveness in a critical situation, and plans to attend Morrisville State College to study equine management and play soccer. The resolution highlights her as an exemplary young citizen who voluntarily responded to help someone in need, embodying the collective spirit of compassion and community service.
