The bill also modifies how settlement proceeds will be distributed, mandating that 35% of the funds from these settlements will be disbursed to counties that join the settlement, while the remaining 65% will be used for statewide, regional, or local opioid abatement and remediation efforts. The bill provides flexibility for the attorney general to release these companies from claims if deemed necessary to resolve the opioid crisis, and includes a standard severability clause ensuring that if any part of the act is found invalid, the rest of the act can still be implemented. The legislation takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
