This bill modifies the definition of "9-1-1 specialist" in Maryland law to explicitly include 9-1-1 technicians who work at or in a public safety answering point (PSAP). Currently, the law defines a 9-1-1 specialist as an employee who receives and processes emergency service requests, provides support functions related to those requests, or dispatches emergency services. The bill adds a new provision that clarifies 9-1-1 technicians are also considered 9-1-1 specialists, which may help formally recognize their critical role in emergency response systems. The changes will take effect on October 1, 2025, giving state and local agencies time to adapt to the updated definition.
