This bill requires each member of a county board of education to complete antibias training at least once during their term, separate from the regular antibias training required for public school employees. The bill builds upon existing guidelines developed by the State Department of Education for antibias training, which aims to be inclusive, culturally responsive, and evidence-based. The training guidelines are designed to raise awareness about biases and discrimination faced by historically marginalized groups, including racial, ethnic, and religious minorities, and to promote inclusivity across various personal characteristics such as race, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, and disability. County boards must develop their own antibias training based on these state guidelines, with the goal of creating more tolerant and inclusive school environments. The training for board members must be distinct from the biennial professional development training provided to school employees and will take effect on July 1, 2025.
