This bill modifies the reporting requirements for charter schools in Mississippi by changing the frequency of a specific report prepared by the Joint Legislative Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review (PEER). Currently, PEER is required to submit an annual report assessing charter school funding, funding formulas, and potential policy changes. The bill amends the existing law to require this report be submitted biennially (every two years) instead of annually. The existing provisions requiring the Mississippi Charter School Authorizer Board to submit an annual report to the Governor, Legislature, State Board of Education, and public remain unchanged. These annual reports will continue to include performance comparisons between charter school students and comparable student groups, an assessment of charter school successes and challenges, and an analysis of charter school enrollment demand. The bill will take effect on July 1, 2025, providing a clear timeline for implementing this reporting frequency change.
