This bill amends the New York City education law to modify the composition of the city's board of education by allowing the president of the citywide council on high schools to participate in the selection of board members alongside community district education council presidents. Specifically, the bill changes the date of implementation from July 1, 2024, to July 1, 2026, and adds the citywide high school council president to the group that elects five board members (one from each borough). The board will continue to consist of 24 voting members, including members appointed by borough presidents, mayoral appointees, an independent chair, and now explicitly including the citywide high school council president in the election process. The terms for these board members will remain one year, starting on July 1st each year. This modification aims to broaden the representation and input in the selection of New York City's board of education members by including the perspective of the citywide high school council president in the election process.
