This bill establishes a Commission to Redesignate Confederate County Names in Mississippi, composed of eleven members including state legislators, representatives from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, and two members appointed by the Governor. The commission's primary goal is to review counties with confederacy-related names and make recommendations for potential name changes, aiming to increase the economic viability and appeal of these counties. The commission will meet monthly, starting no later than July 1, 2025, and will be initially led by the Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Members will serve without compensation, except for legislative members who will receive standard committee meeting reimbursement.
