This resolution amends Senate Rules 28 and 35C to remove existing provisions that allowed news media members with proper credentials to access the Senate floor and press table. Under the proposed changes, members of the news media would no longer be permitted to enter the Senate floor during sessions, sit at the press table, or photograph or transcribe Senate debates and proceedings. The resolution maintains existing restrictions that limit floor access to specific individuals such as senators and their immediate families, elected state officials, former legislators (except registered lobbyists), Senate and House employees, joint legislative employees, and official guests invited by the Senate President. The Sergeant-at-Arms would continue to be responsible for clearing the Senate floor of unauthorized visitors thirty minutes before each session and preventing other visitors from entering for ten minutes after a session recesses. This change appears to significantly restrict media access to Senate proceedings, potentially impacting transparency and public information about legislative activities.
