AI Summary

This bill creates the Children's Resource Commission, a 17-member panel tasked with coordinating and improving services for children in Mississippi. The commission will include representatives from various state agencies, educational institutions, and professional associations, focusing on issues such as child abuse prevention, foster care, and adoption. Key responsibilities include creating a comprehensive resource map of federal and state funding for child-related programs, assessing the effectiveness of existing services, and determining whether programs should be merged, continued, or discontinued. The commission will be required to file an annual report by December 1st to legislative committees, detailing funding sources, program inventories, performance measures, and potential service gaps. All state agencies providing child-related services must submit detailed itemized lists of their programs to the John C. Stennis Institute of Government by September 1st each year, which will then compile the information into a single document for the commission and legislative committees. Members will serve without compensation but can receive travel expense reimbursements. The commission will conduct public meetings at least quarterly, with the first meeting scheduled by August 1, 2025, and will begin operations on July 1, 2025, with the goal of streamlining and improving child services across the state.
