AI Summary

This bill mandates that effective October 1, 2025, the Mississippi Department of Human Services (DHS) will terminate its existing contract(s) with private entities currently responsible for child support collection and enforcement services. At that point, the Child Support Unit within DHS will directly assume all child support and enforcement functions previously performed by private contractors. The bill specifically prohibits the state from providing any further funding for these private contracts and ensures that DHS cannot be held financially liable for contract termination. Additionally, the bill amends Section 43-1-3 of the Mississippi Code to explicitly prevent DHS from entering into any new contracts with private entities for child support collection and enforcement offices or programs after the bill's effective date. This legislative action effectively brings child support enforcement services fully under state government control, removing the role of private contractors in these critical services.
