AI Summary

This bill strengthens legal restrictions and penalties related to abortion in Indiana by expanding the Attorney General's jurisdictional powers, creating new criminal offenses, and establishing additional enforcement mechanisms. Specifically, the bill allows the Attorney General to prosecute cases involving unlawful abortions and trafficking of abortion-inducing drugs, concurrent with local prosecutors. The legislation creates a new criminal offense of "trafficking an abortion inducing drug" as a Level 6 felony, which can be elevated to a Level 5 felony for repeat offenders. The bill also adds provisions making it a Level 5 felony to administer an abortion-inducing drug without the pregnant woman's knowledge or consent. Additionally, the legislation expands seizure provisions to include vehicles, real property, and other assets used in connection with performing unlawful abortions or trafficking abortion-inducing drugs. The bill further classifies these actions as potential racketeering activities and allows for professional licensing consequences for physicians who violate the new restrictions. These changes are set to take effect on July 1, 2025, and represent a significant expansion of legal restrictions and criminal penalties surrounding abortion-related activities in Indiana.
