AI Summary

This bill requires high schools in Mississippi school districts rated "C", "D", or "F" under the state accountability system to offer specific courses in vocational education, agriculture, forestry, and home economics beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. These courses will be considered elective courses that can count toward students' graduation requirements. The State Board of Education must establish curriculum standards for these courses and collaborate with state and federal agencies and higher education institutions to develop uniform materials and programs of study. Additionally, the bill modifies existing education laws to allow the State Department of Education to grant special expert citizen-teacher licenses to qualified professionals without traditional teaching credentials to teach these specialized courses. This approach aims to enhance educational opportunities in lower-performing school districts by introducing practical, career-oriented subjects that can provide students with valuable skills and potential career pathways. The bill will take effect on July 1, 2025, giving schools time to prepare for implementing these new curriculum requirements.
